Baked Chicken Wings

Baked Chicken Wings

Ingredients:

  • 10-12 chicken wings (drummettes and flats)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for some heat)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder (this helps to get crispy wings)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Wings:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup. Place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet to elevate the wings, allowing air to circulate and making them crispier.
  • Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This step is crucial for getting crispy wings.

2. Season the Wings:

  • In a large bowl, mix the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper (if using), and baking powder.
  • Toss the wings in the seasoning mixture until they’re evenly coated.

3. Bake the Wings:

  • Arrange the wings in a single layer on the wire rack. Make sure they’re not overcrowded, so they cook evenly.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes. After this time, flip the wings over and bake for another 20-25 minutes, or until the wings are golden brown and crispy on both sides. The internal temperature of the wings should reach 165°F (74°C).

4. Serve:

  • Once the wings are crispy and fully cooked, remove them from the oven. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
  • Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces like ranch, blue cheese dressing, or a hot wing sauce.

WW Points:

  • On the Blue and Purple plans, each wing typically counts as 2-3 points depending on the size of the wing and the specific oil used. If you skip any sauce and just enjoy the crispy baked wings, it’ll be lower in points.

Storage:

  • Store leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. You can reheat them in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes to restore their crispiness.

Tips & Variations:

  • Add sauces after baking: If you want to make flavored wings like Buffalo wings or BBQ wings, toss the baked wings in your favorite sauce after they’re done baking. Just be mindful of the points for the sauce!
  • Spicy wings: Add more cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce to the seasoning mix for extra spice.
  • Air fryer option: You can also make these wings in the air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through for extra crispiness.
