Cheesy Italian Breadsticks

For the breadsticks:

  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the dipping sauce (optional):

  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the pizza dough:
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle, about 12×8 inches.
  3. Prepare the cheese mixture:
    • In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, grated Parmesan cheese, grated mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, dried oregano, dried basil, and salt.
  4. Apply the cheese mixture:
    • Brush the entire surface of the rolled-out dough with the cheese mixture, making sure to evenly distribute it.
  5. Cut the dough into strips:
    • Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the dough into strips, about 1 inch wide.
  6. Twist the breadsticks:
    • Take each strip and gently twist it, then place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake:
    • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-18 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown.
  8. Optional: Prepare the dipping sauce:
    • While the breadsticks are baking, you can heat up the marinara sauce in a small saucepan over low heat.
  9. Serve:
    • Once the breadsticks are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve them warm with the optional marinara sauce for dipping.
