HOMEMADE CALZONE DOUGH RECIPE
Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix the ingredients until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air bubbles. Divide the dough into equal portions, depending on how many calzones you want to make.
- Roll out each portion of dough into a circle or oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Fill one half of each dough circle with your desired calzone fillings, leaving a border around the edges.
- Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly to seal.
- Optional: Brush the tops of the calzones with olive oil and sprinkle with Italian seasoning or grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.
- Place the calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another 15-20 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the calzones for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
