homemade falafel

homemade falafel

I decided to try my hand at making homemade falafel for the first time ever. And boy was I impressed!!!!! I am so happy with how it turned out!
I highly recommend trying it homemade! It’s basically garlicky, herby hushpuppies!
Recipe:
1 can garbanzo (chick peas)
1 cup rough chopped Parsley
1 cup rough chopped cilantro
1 cup rough chopped Dill
1/2 cup rough diced yellow onion
1/ teaspoon baking soda
2 table spoon flour
1 teaspoon salt (I also added MSG)
5 cloves garlic
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 teaspoon cumin
Pepper to taste
You can also add a jalapeno if you want it to be spicy.
Rinse garbanzos and roast in oven at 425⁰f to reduce how wet the beans are. I honestly cannot remember how long i did this step for, I just put the beans in to roast and then started chopping my herbs and onion. When I was done I took them out. They had a great popping texture but they weren’t crunchy or wet either. (Too wet and the dough will not set up, so do not skip this step!)
In a food processor/blender add the remainder ingredients except for flour and baking soda. (Add these last)
Add garbanzo beans (I actually did mine right from the oven and it worked well. Though the colder the better. You can also skip the roasting step if you soak fresh beans overnight instead of using caned)
Blend until it’s a sandy texture.
Mix in flour and baking soda. Then roll into balls. Coat balls in a small amount of flour and fry in oil. (I fried mine on olive oil, hence why it’s dark)
