lettuce bun cheeseburger

Ingredients:

For the Burger:

  • 4 lean ground beef patties (90% lean or leaner)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices reduced-fat cheese (such as reduced-fat cheddar or Swiss)
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 large iceberg or butter lettuce leaves

For Toppings (Choose according to your preference and WW points):

  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced pickles
  • Mustard
  • Ketchup (use sparingly due to sugar content)
  • Sliced red onion
  • Avocado slices (count points)
  • Cooked turkey bacon (count points)
  • Sugar-free BBQ sauce (low or zero points, depending on the brand)

Instructions:

  1. Season the ground beef patties with salt and pepper. Preheat a grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Grill the beef patties to your preferred doneness. Ensure they are cooked thoroughly and reach a safe internal temperature.
  3. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of reduced-fat cheese on each patty to melt.
  4. While the burgers are cooking, prepare the lettuce “buns” by carefully removing large, sturdy leaves from the head of lettuce.
  5. Assemble your lettuce bun cheeseburgers: Place a cooked beef patty with melted cheese on one lettuce leaf, then add your chosen toppings.
  6. Top with another lettuce leaf to create a “bun.” Secure the burger with a toothpick if needed.
  7. Serve your lettuce bun cheeseburgers with a side salad or vegetable of your choice to make it a complete meal.
