Ingredients:
For the Burger:
- 4 lean ground beef patties (90% lean or leaner)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices reduced-fat cheese (such as reduced-fat cheddar or Swiss)
- 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
- 4 large iceberg or butter lettuce leaves
For Toppings (Choose according to your preference and WW points):
- Sliced tomatoes
- Sliced pickles
- Mustard
- Ketchup (use sparingly due to sugar content)
- Sliced red onion
- Avocado slices (count points)
- Cooked turkey bacon (count points)
- Sugar-free BBQ sauce (low or zero points, depending on the brand)
Instructions:
- Season the ground beef patties with salt and pepper. Preheat a grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Grill the beef patties to your preferred doneness. Ensure they are cooked thoroughly and reach a safe internal temperature.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of reduced-fat cheese on each patty to melt.
- While the burgers are cooking, prepare the lettuce “buns” by carefully removing large, sturdy leaves from the head of lettuce.
- Assemble your lettuce bun cheeseburgers: Place a cooked beef patty with melted cheese on one lettuce leaf, then add your chosen toppings.
- Top with another lettuce leaf to create a “bun.” Secure the burger with a toothpick if needed.
- Serve your lettuce bun cheeseburgers with a side salad or vegetable of your choice to make it a complete meal.
