Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (29 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 9 lasagna noodles, uncooked
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil and parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef (or turkey) along with the chopped onion and minced garlic. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, sugar, salt, dried basil, dried oregano, and black pepper. Mix well and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, combine the ricotta cheese and grated Parmesan cheese.
- Grease the inside of your crockpot to prevent sticking.
- Begin layering the lasagna in the crockpot. Start by spooning a small amount of the meat sauce onto the bottom of the pot. This prevents the noodles from sticking.
- Add a layer of uncooked lasagna noodles, breaking them as needed to fit.
- Add a layer of the meat sauce.
- Add a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture.
- Add a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layers as needed, ending with a final layer of mozzarella cheese on top.
- Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 4-6 hours or until the noodles are tender.
- Once the lasagna is cooked, turn off the crockpot and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes before serving to allow it to set.
- Garnish with fresh basil and parsley, if desired.
