5 minute caramel walnuts
Ingredients:
- 1 cup walnuts (halves or chopped)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
- Heat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
- Add the walnuts to the dry skillet and toast them for about 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become fragrant. Remove the walnuts from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the granulated sugar, water, and a pinch of salt. Stir well to combine.
- Cook the sugar mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture starts to bubble.
- Once the mixture starts to turn golden brown (this should take about 2-3 minutes), add the toasted walnuts back into the skillet.
- Quickly stir the walnuts into the caramel until they are evenly coated.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract (if using).
- Immediately transfer the caramelized walnuts onto a piece of parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, spreading them out in a single layer to prevent them from sticking together.
- Allow the caramelized walnuts to cool and harden for a few minutes before serving or storing in an airtight container.
