Ingredients:
For the Mushroom Filling:
- 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms (such as cremini or button mushrooms)
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon of dried thyme (or fresh thyme leaves)
For the Sandwich:
- 4 slices of bread (sourdough, whole wheat, or your choice)
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- Butter or margarine for spreading on the bread
Instructions:
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they start to release their moisture and become tender, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and dried thyme to the mushrooms, and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
- Take your bread slices and butter one side of each slice.
- Place two bread slices, buttered side down, on a clean surface. On each slice, layer a slice of cheese, followed by the sautéed mushroom mixture, and another slice of cheese. Top with the remaining bread slices, buttered side up.
- Place the sandwiches in the preheated air fryer basket. You may need to do this in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
- Air fry the sandwiches for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Carefully remove the sandwiches from the air fryer and allow them to cool for a minute or two.
- Slice the sandwiches in half diagonally and serve hot. Enjoy your Air Fryer Grilled Mushroom Melt!
