Baked fried chicken recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs chicken pieces (drumsticks, thighs, breasts)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • Cooking spray or olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken:
    • Place the chicken pieces in a large bowl and pour buttermilk over them.
    • Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours or overnight. This helps tenderize the chicken.
  2. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  3. Prepare the Coating:
    • In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
  4. Coat the Chicken:
    • Take each piece of chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, and coat it thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture.
  5. Place on Baking Sheet:
    • Place a wire rack on a baking sheet and arrange the coated chicken pieces on the rack. This allows air to circulate around the chicken, making it crispier.
  6. Drizzle with Oil:
    • Lightly drizzle or spray the chicken pieces with cooking spray or olive oil. This helps them brown and become crispy in the oven.
  7. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-50 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the coating is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Serve:
    • Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes before serving. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce or side dishes.
