cheeseburger egg rolls

cheeseburger egg rolls

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (you can also use ground turkey or chicken)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 10 egg roll wrappers (or low-carb wraps if on a keto diet)
  • Cooking spray or a little vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional toppings: Pickles, lettuce, extra cheese

Instructions:

  1. Cook the filling:
    • In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks (about 5-7 minutes).
    • Once the beef is browned, drain any excess fat.
    • Add the chopped onion and garlic to the pan, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until softened.
    • Stir in the ketchup, mustard (optional), salt, and pepper. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, mixing everything together. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  2. Add the cheese:
    • Once the beef mixture has cooled down a bit, stir in the shredded cheese. The cheese should melt and bind the filling together.
  3. Prepare the egg rolls:
    • Lay an egg roll wrapper flat on a clean surface, with one corner pointing towards you (like a diamond shape).
    • Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cheeseburger filling into the center of the wrapper.
    • Fold in the sides of the wrapper and roll it tightly from the bottom up, sealing the top corner with a little water to make sure the egg roll stays closed.
    • Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  4. Fry or bake:
    • To fry: Heat a few inches of oil in a deep pan or skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the egg rolls in the oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove from oil and drain on a paper towel.
    • To bake: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the egg rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and spray them lightly with cooking spray. Bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve your cheeseburger egg rolls with ketchup, mustard, or any dipping sauce of your choice.
    • For added freshness, you can top them with pickles or even shredded lettuce.

Tips:

  • Low-carb/Keto option: If you’re following a keto diet, use low-carb or keto-friendly egg roll wrappers, or try substituting with lettuce wraps for a lighter version.
  • Add-ins: You can mix in diced pickles or cooked bacon into the beef mixture for extra flavor.
  • Bake vs. Fry: If you prefer a healthier option, baking is a great alternative to frying. The egg rolls will still be crispy, and you won’t need as much oil.

These Cheeseburger Egg Rolls are a fun twist on a classic, and they’re perfect for anyone craving a cheeseburger in a more portable and crispy form. Enjoy!
