Home Made Crab Rangoon Recipe

Home Made Crab Rangoon Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz reduced-fat cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/2 cup canned or imitation crab meat (or fresh crab if preferred), finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ginger (fresh or ground)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 12-14 wonton wrappers (you can find these in the refrigerated section)
  • Cooking spray (for air frying or baking)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for a light brushing if baking)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven (if baking): Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) or prepare your air fryer at 375°F.
  2. Prepare Crab Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, chopped crab meat, green onions, soy sauce, garlic powder, ginger, and black pepper. Mix everything well until it forms a smooth, creamy mixture.
  3. Assemble the Rangoon:
    • Lay a wonton wrapper flat on a clean surface.
    • Place about 1-1.5 teaspoons of the crab mixture in the center of the wrapper.
    • Wet the edges of the wrapper with a little water using your finger or a brush.
    • Fold the wrapper into a triangle by bringing opposite corners together (or form a small pouch by folding all corners to the center).
    • Press the edges to seal tightly.
  4. Cooking Method:
    • Air Fryer: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the prepared crab rangoon in the air fryer, leaving space between each. Lightly spray the tops of the rangoon with cooking spray. Air fry at 375°F for 8-10 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
    • Oven Baking: Lightly brush the crab rangoon with olive oil and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy, flipping halfway through.
  5. Serve: Serve warm with a dipping sauce like low-sodium soy sauce or sweet chili sauce (keep in mind dipping sauce can add points).

WW Points (Approximate per serving):

  • Freestyle Points: About 1-2 points per crab rangoon, depending on how many you make and the specific ingredients you use.
  • SmartPoints: Around 2-3 points per serving for 2-3 pieces, depending on the cooking method and specific ingredients.

Tips:

  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the crab rangoon and freeze them before cooking. Just arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze. Once frozen, transfer them to a zip-top bag. When ready to cook, bake or air fry directly from frozen (add a few extra minutes to the cooking time).
  • Substitute: You can also use shrimp or chicken if you prefer a different protein in the filling.
  • Dipping Sauces: For a low-point option, try pairing them with a low-sodium soy sauce or a simple homemade vinegar-based dip.
