INGREDIENTS:
1 cup non-dairy milk (such as almond, soy, or oat milk)
1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup vegan butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
1/2 teaspoon salt
Vegetable oil, for frying
FOR THE CHOCOLATE GLAZE:
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
2-3 tablespoons non-dairy milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
FOR DECORATION:
Organic roses (make sure they are edible and pesticide-free)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Activate Yeast: Heat the non-dairy milk until warm, but not hot. Sprinkle the yeast over the warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
Mix Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the activated yeast mixture, sugar, melted vegan butter, and vanilla extract. Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape Donuts: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or a round cookie cutter to cut out donut shapes. Place the shaped donuts on a floured baking sheet, cover them with a kitchen towel, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
Fry Donuts: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 350°F (180°C). Carefully add the donuts to the hot oil, frying them in batches for about 1-2 minutes per side or until they are golden brown. Remove the donuts from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack to cool.
Make Chocolate Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, non-dairy milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed.
Glaze Donuts: Dip each cooled donut into the chocolate glaze, allowing any excess glaze to drip off. Place the glazed donuts back on the wire rack.
Decorate with Roses: Gently press organic rose petals onto the glazed surface of each donut for decoration.
