KENTUCKY BUTTER CAKE

KENTUCKY BUTTER CAKE

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the Butter Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 and 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a bundt cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  8. While the cake is baking, prepare the butter sauce. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, sugar, and water. Stir until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  9. Once the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and poke holes all over the top using a skewer or fork.
  10. Pour the butter sauce evenly over the warm cake, allowing it to soak in.
  11. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 15-20 minutes, then invert it onto a serving plate or cake stand.
  12. Let the cake cool completely before slicing and serving.
