VEGAN BBQ RIBS

Ingredients:
1 cup vital wheat gluten
2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup vegetable broth
2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon olive oil
BBQ sauce of your choice
Instructions:
Prepare the Seitan Dough:In a mixing bowl, combine the vital wheat gluten, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper.
Mix Wet Ingredients:In another bowl, whisk together the vegetable broth, soy sauce or tamari, tomato paste, and olive oil.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix well to form a dough.
Knead the Dough:Knead the dough for about 3-5 minutes until it becomes elastic.
Shape the Ribs:Divide the dough into 4-6 equal-sized portions. Shape each portion into a rib-like shape.
Steam the Ribs:Prepare a steamer and steam the ribs for about 30 minutes. This helps to firm up the texture.
Grill or Bake:Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat (around 375°F or 190°C). If grilling, lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking. Place the ribs on the grill and brush them generously with BBQ sauce. Grill for about 5-7 minutes on each side, brushing with more BBQ sauce as needed, until they are nicely charred and heated through. If baking, place the ribs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Brush with BBQ sauce and bake for about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through and brushing with more sauce, until they are heated through and have a slightly crispy exterior.
