Ingredients:
- 2 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (or a vegan sweetener of your choice)
- 1.5 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1.5 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted vegan butter (such as coconut oil)
- 5.5 cups all-purpose flour or bread flour
- Vegan butter or olive oil for brushing (optional)
Instructions:
- Dissolve the granulated sugar (or vegan sweetener) in warm water. Add the active dry yeast and let it proof.
- Mix the vegetable oil (or melted vegan butter) into the yeast mixture once it has proofed.
- In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour (or bread flour) and salt.
- Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture one cup at a time and stir/mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 3-5 minutes.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, turning it over to coat both sides. Let it rise for one hour in a warm place.
- Punch down the dough, shape it into loaves, and place it in greased bread pans.
- Let the dough rise for 30-40 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown.
- If desired, brush the tops with melted vegan butter (use a vegan butter substitute) or olive oil while the bread is still warm.
