Vegan Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (or a vegan sweetener of your choice)
  • 1.5 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted vegan butter (such as coconut oil)
  • 5.5 cups all-purpose flour or bread flour
  • Vegan butter or olive oil for brushing (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Dissolve the granulated sugar (or vegan sweetener) in warm water. Add the active dry yeast and let it proof.
  2. Mix the vegetable oil (or melted vegan butter) into the yeast mixture once it has proofed.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour (or bread flour) and salt.
  4. Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture one cup at a time and stir/mix until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough for about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, turning it over to coat both sides. Let it rise for one hour in a warm place.
  7. Punch down the dough, shape it into loaves, and place it in greased bread pans.
  8. Let the dough rise for 30-40 minutes.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown.
  10. If desired, brush the tops with melted vegan butter (use a vegan butter substitute) or olive oil while the bread is still warm.
