Wings and fries 😍

Ingredients for Wings:

  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Ingredients for Fries:

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together buttermilk, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade. Add the chicken wings and toss to coat them thoroughly. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight to allow the flavors to develop.
  2. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Wash the potatoes and cut them into long, thin strips to create fries. Pat them dry using a kitchen towel.
  4. In a bowl, combine the vegetable oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Toss the potato strips in the seasoned oil until they are evenly coated.
  5. Arrange the seasoned potato strips in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the fries are crispy and golden brown. Flip them halfway through the baking time for even cooking.
  6. While the fries are baking, prepare the wings. In a large, deep pot or Dutch oven, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Make sure there is enough oil to fully submerge the chicken wings.
  7. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Remove the wings from the marinade, allowing any excess liquid to drip off. Dredge each wing in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
  8. Carefully place the coated chicken wings in the hot oil, a few at a time, without overcrowding the pot. Fry for about 10-12 minutes or until the wings are golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon or tongs to transfer the fried wings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Repeat the frying process with the remaining wings, working in batches if necessary.
  10. Once all the wings and fries are cooked, serve them hot and enjoy your soul food feast! You can serve them with your favorite dipping sauces or enjoy them as is.

These wings and fries make for a tasty soul food meal that can be enjoyed on any occasion. Adjust the seasonings according to your preference and feel free to add your own twist to the recipe. Enjoy!
