CROCKPOT CHRISTMAS CRACK

Ingredients:

  • 1 sleeve (about 40) saltine crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup holiday-themed sprinkles or crushed candy canes (optional)
  • Chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Crockpot:
    • Line the bottom of your slow cooker with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.
  2. Arrange Crackers:
    • Place a single layer of saltine crackers on the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Make Caramel Sauce:
    • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Stir continuously until it comes to a boil, then let it boil for about 3 minutes without stirring. The mixture should thicken slightly.
  4. Pour Caramel over Crackers:
    • Pour the caramel sauce evenly over the layer of saltine crackers in the slow cooker.
  5. Cook in Crockpot:
    • Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 2 hours.
  6. Add Chocolate:
    • After 2 hours, sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the caramel-covered crackers. Cover the slow cooker and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the chocolate to melt.
  7. Spread Chocolate:
    • Once the chocolate chips have softened, use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the caramel layer.
  8. Add Toppings (Optional):
    • If desired, sprinkle holiday-themed sprinkles or crushed candy canes over the melted chocolate. You can also add chopped nuts if you like.
  9. Chill:
    • Allow the Christmas Crack to cool and set. You can speed up the process by placing it in the refrigerator.
  10. Break into Pieces:
  • Once completely set, lift the Christmas Crack out of the slow cooker using the parchment paper overhang. Break it into pieces.
