Ingredients:
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for added heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Lemon wedges, for serving
- Tartar sauce or cocktail sauce, for dipping (optional)
Instructions:
- In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine the dry ingredients.
- Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. The oil should be about 1 inch deep.
- Dredge each shrimp in the flour mixture, pressing firmly to adhere. Shake off any excess flour.
- Carefully place the coated shrimp into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the shrimp in batches for about 2-3 minutes per side until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon or tongs to transfer the fried shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Repeat the coating and frying process until all the shrimp are cooked.
- Serve the fried shrimp while hot, garnished with lemon wedges. You can also serve them with tartar sauce or cocktail sauce for dipping, if desired.
